Enoch and Elijah

by Kenneth M. Hoeck Enoch and Elijah Did they enter into Heaven? There are many people, even some Theologians, who believe emphatically that Elijah was taken to God’s throne in Heaven.  It is believed that the biblical examples of Enoch and Elijah show that we will also be in Heaven with God after we die.  Well, What about Elijah?  Or Enoch? Weren’t they taken to heaven?  Well, let us find out about these two men of God and of their “translation”.  Let us begin with Elijah and also let us rely on the scriptures to give us the “big picture” of what really happened with him.  We need to gather a little information before we go to II Kings to “witness” the “translation” of this servant of God. (Read Carefully) 1Kings18:7 And as Obadiah was in the way, behold, Elijah met him: and he knew him, and fell on his […]

Are You Going to Heaven?

ARE YOU GOING TO HEAVEN? By Kenneth M. Hoeck What does the Bible say about heaven??  Most people if they were asked this question would say that heaven is the place “up there somewhere”, the place that “the people who are saved by Jesus will go and spend eternity.”  Is this true?  That is what so many people, religious people, believe…. so it is hard for many to imagine it being anything else. What happens when we die? Some think that you become an “angel”. What does the Bible say?  Is heaven a place where we will sit around on clouds all day and play harps?  Is this “doctrine” biblically sound?  Have you ever proved , from the pages of your own bible, that people go to heaven when they die? Let us guide you through some scriptures that may help you be assured of what happens to a […]

Death & the Soul, part 3

We’ve been talking/studying about the soul of man and what happens at death. Millions of people have wondered about this down through the years. They want to know about their beloved dead. Where do they remain during the time they wait for the great resurrection day? Today we’re going to answer this question. We are not immortal. We’ve found that there is no such thing as a naturally immortal soul. We’ve found that the body and the very life is made up of a combination of breath plus the body. And when the breath returns to God and leaves the body, there is no longer any conscious existence on the part of the individual. The soul is not in existence as long as the breath is not in the body. These things have been established previously. Now, we want to know this: If we’re not immortal by nature, when will […]

Death & the Soul, part 2

Continuing on from part one…..  We introduced the intriguing subject of life after death or what is a soul? What happens to an individual when death comes? This is a question that has perplexed people right down through the ages. What is the soul? (more info from Strongs available HERE.) We’re going back to Genesis 2:7 to get God’s definition of a soul. Now friends, God knows. We may not know and understand it all, but He certainly has the answer for us. Notice this text. “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” Now here’s God’s own definition of it, friends. Let no man think that he can improve on it. We might put it in a little formula like this: BODY + BREATH = SOUL. That’s all there is […]

Death & the Soul, part 1

Amost every home has experienced the death of some loved one, and because of it, the heart cry of millions all over the world is, “Where are our dead? In heaven? In hell? In purgatory, limbo, or some other place? Are our departed ones asleep, or are they dead? What has been done with the millions of dead?” You know, friends, only as we get the whole story from the Book of God can we know the whole truth on this very vital subject. Grabbing a text here and plucking a text from over there and founding an entire doctrine on that text is one of the most dangerous things a person can do, and it might cost an individual his eternal salvation. And yet it’s often done today, whole doctrines are based on just one verse of the Bible. Did you ever hear the story of the four blind […]

Where are the dead? Discussion…

BY Don H                          A DISCUSSION   Where are the Dead Now? When we die in our flesh body we are changed into our spiritual body. 1 Cor 15:42-44 42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: 43 It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: 44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. KJV ….In 1 Thess 4:16 it says, “the dead in Christ rise first”. Why would they rise first?…. 1 Thess 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive […]

Swallowed Up in Victory

By  John Accomando DEATH “SWALLOWED UP IN VICTORY,” AND THE HEAVENS “ROLLED TOGETHER AS A SCROLL”:   1 Corinthians 15:54- “So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP IN VICTORY.” Few believers know what Paul was quoting: Isaiah 25:8- “He will SWALLOW UP DEATH IN VICTORY; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the Lord hath spoken it.” When does Isaiah describe this occurring? After the “heavenly signs”: Isaiah 13:10- “For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.” Isaiah 24:23- […]

Who are the “hagios?”

Who are the “hagios” who the Lord said that He returns from Heaven with? by John Accomando The reason I bring it up is because the popular teaching is that we come back with the Lord at His “parousia” (second coming), based on the following two verses: 1 Thessalonians 3:13- “To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.” Jude 1:14- “And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,” It’s natural to deduce that we come back with Him based on these verses, but is that what is really being said? What are those words in Greek? 1 Thessalonians 3:13- “εις το στηριξαι υμων τας καρδιας αμεμπτους εναγιωσυνη εμπροσθεν του θεου και πατρος ημων εν τη παρουσιατου κυριου […]

Righteous Dead

Where are the “righteous dead?” by  John Accomando Many pastors popularly teach that we’re whisked away to Heaven at the moment of death. While this certainly isn’t a salvation issue, and I don’t believe in “soul sleep”, I wanted to offer Scripture to definitively determine whether that popular teaching is true or not, because after all, truth really does matter, and Scripture is the final arbiter. Luke 23:43- “And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.” As “paradise” indeed refers to the 3rd Heaven, it sure would seem as if the thief would be going to Heaven in that literal 24-hour day. However, as I’ll show, comma placement changes the meaning completely, and other Scripture determines how it should read. I should preface this by saying I’m not the least but superstitious about punctuation which interpreters added long after the […]

Absent from the body

by John Accomando 2 Corinthians 5:4-8 (“absent from the body”) Sometimes in Biblical study, you have moments where you find something in a set of verses you’d never seen before. Regarding 2 Cor 5, some selectively quote verse 8 to argue that we go to Heaven immediately at death, but look carefully at Paul’s wording in the preceding verses: 2 Corinthians 5:4-8: “For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that MORTALITY MIGHT BE SWALLOWED UP OF LIFE. 5 Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. 6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: 7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 8 We are confident, […]
