What Would Jesus Say About Christmas?

What Would Jesus Say About Christmas? ~ Based on a talk ~ Imagine, if you will, that it is just a day or two before Christmas and that you are downtown in a large city. The streets are festively decorated. Santa Claus’ are in all the stores. Shoppers are desperately making last minute purchases. Recorded Christmas carols ring out. Every conversation ends with “Merry Christmas!” Everyone has the Christmas spirit. Now imagine that Jesus is there on that street amidst all that bustle and activity. Imagine that you are near by so that you can see and hear what takes place. Listen… Jesus approaches a shopper burdened down with packages. He inquires of her. “Would you tell me the meaning of all this excitement and commotion?” The woman continues to brush on past, but for some strange reason she stops and answers rather irritably what she feels is a foolish […]

Obedience or Good Intentions?

Does God Require Strict Obedience, Or Does He Judge Us By Our Intentions? by Susan Weeks Some of us have been spreading the word about the thoroughly pagan origins of Christmas, and the good reasons why Christians shouldn’t celebrate it. I understand many Christians have not yet heard these reasons . . . but some have and it is them that I am addressing. There is an argument that is repeatedly put forth. It goes something like this: I’m celebrating Christmas for the glory of God . . . I’m celebrating Jesus’ birth (even though it wasn’t Dec. 25th) . . . I’m not doing anything wrong . . . God knows my heart . . . He understands. Let me share six verses of Scripture, because there is a lesson here–for those who have ‘eyes to see’ and ‘ears to hear’. ‘ . . . but Cain was a […]

Verse of the Day

John 10:28-29 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.

Verse of the Day

Zephaniah 3:17 17 The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

Verse of the Day

Amos 8:11-12 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord: 12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

Verse of the Day

Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

Website construction

I am self taught on the computer. I wish I had taken a basic class to learn a few things like photo-shop and web design stuff. Oh well, it’s easier to have someone else do it! Younger, more experienced techy folks have better ideas, too!  Anyway, it’s coming together.

Halloween and the Forces of Darkness

Halloween and the Forces of Darkness Where did it all come from? October 31st is a day of ghosts, witches, goblins, and grotesque creatures. It is also a day of orange and black, of candles and jack-o-lanterns. Costume parties and strange customs occupy the minds of western civilization, and all of this seems to be intensifying every year. Children wearing every kind of costume imaginable, and some unimaginable, have been going for door to door for years at the end of October saying “trick or treat” and collecting bags full of treats. In recent years, many people have been decorating their yards as cemeteries and making their houses look spooky. Even churches have Halloween parties and set up “haunted houses” as fund raising projects. Where did it all come from, and what does it all mean? Most people would say it is all harmless fun. Some would venture to […]
