Look to the Light

John 1:4-5, “In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” Isaiah 9:2, “The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.” John 8:12, “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” John 3:19-21, “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.” Psalms 18:28, “For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.” John 12:46, “I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.” Psalms 36:9, “For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.” Luke 11:35-36, “Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness. If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.” Romans 13:12, “The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.” Matthew 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Philippians 2:15, “That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world.” John 12:36, “While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light…” Psalm 27:1, “The LORD is my light and my salvation…” Ephesians 5:8, “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light.”

Foreword

The author has nothing against any of the religious peoples of this world and reaches out to everyone in love. My hope is to point all men to the one true God through Christ Jesus. The institutions of man are hopelessly irreparable (beyond repair, irredeemable), but with the hearts of men all things are possible through God (Mt 19:26, Mk 9:20, 10:27, 14:36).

John 14:6, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Acts 4:12, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

Introduction

The following book resulted from a study of church history as understood from several different books written independently and in different ages that revealed much the same thingC, D, E, F. This knowledge coupled with sources from secular world historyA seemed to paint a rather disturbing picture. That which has historically been known as the church by the majority of peoples of the earth has undeniably been a reflection of the world and is often just as corrupt and evil as the world around it. How can this be? All things are not as they appear. The purpose of this book is to take an honest look at scriptures and relevant history and consider just where the true church can be found.

The author pondered, prayed and struggled over the path that much of the visible church took as compared to the truth of God’s Word. It became very clear that there was a definite change of direction that took place in Rome under Constantine (a combining with the state, a new foundation, Edict of Milan). They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us (1 Jn 2:19). The true church is small and continues under the teaching and guidance of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 6:11). The Lord spoke to the author in prayer, through His Word, and directed the author’s thoughts when writing this article. This writing is offered up for your consideration and I pray that the Lord will speak to your heart as you read. The purpose is to encourage you the reader to examine your foundation, seek God and walk in His true gospel.

There was a tremendous religious system at the time of Christ. The Sadducees and Pharisees claimed to represent God. Through doctrine and tradition of men they had usurped the things of God (Mt 15:9, Mk 7:7, 13). John the Baptist and Jesus did not have many nice things to say of them. John said, upon seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism: “O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come (Mt 3:7, Lk 3:7)?”

Jesus said such things as: 1) Matthew 5:20, “For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.” 2) Matthew 23:33, “Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?” 3) Matthew 12:34-35, “O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things” 4) John 5:42, “But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.” 5) Matthew 16:6, 12, “Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. (also Mt 16:11-12).” 6) Matthew 15:14, “Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.” 7) John 8:44, “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do…” 8) Luke 16:15, “And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.”

The martyr Stephen, through the Holy Ghost added: Acts 7:51, “Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.” What about the religious institutions of man? Matthew 15:13, “But he (Jesus) answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.”

The religious Jews had developed doctrines and traditions of men. They put hard burdens upon men in a system of service through compulsion (obligation, force, coercion). They were hypocritical, self exalting, controlling and lacked true love or compassion for their fellow man. They loved the praise of men more than the praise of God (Jn 12:43).

The great religious institutions of modern man are analogous to the Jewish religious system. Man’s theology (what you must think and what you must do) has usurped the place of the Holy Spirit. The true love of God (and fellow man) has been lost. The religious never see or acknowledge their error or faults. Proverbs 16:2, “All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits (also Pv 21:2).” Is it just possible that there may also be many modern day serpents and vipers? Let us put religiosity aside (oh my!) for the moment (nothing can usurp the place of Christ as absolute head and Lord) and: 2 Corinthians 13:5, “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?”
